Bitdefender Endpoint Security Tools installation fails on Windows Server 2016 with the following error:

I have Win 10 Pro x64. I recently upgraded from Bitdefender Internet Security 2015 to Bitdefender Total Security 2016. With both versions, I notice that whether booting cold or a restart, sometimes Windows Defender is active (can be accessed thru. Most of the time, Bitdefender won't install due to conflict with previous versions of the software on your PC. To easily solve this issue, use a third-party program to clean your system of leftover files. Know that having other antivirus apps on your device can also stop Bitdefender from installing.

Bitdefender Endpoint Security Tools cannot be successfully installed.

I have also noticed that installation gets stuck on the Starting Services step. Looking into Windows Services mmc, it seems that the installer is trying to start “Bitdefender Endpoint Security Service”, but the service never starts and installation eventually fails…

Resolution

All usual tricks, including re-installing, repairing, rebooting, etc. didn't help. I opened a ticket with Bitdefender Enterprise support and their first suggestion was cleaning the install using their Uninstall Tool (cmd command: BEST_uninstallTool.exe /bdparams /bruteForce) and then trying to re-install. Unfortunately, this didn't make any difference. They also suggested trying to install a basic package without any optional modules, but this didn't help either.

Next step was a remote support session with Bitdefender support, where after going through the same steps as I did before, they eventually confirmed that this was a known issue with Bitdefender client installation on certain versions of Windows Server and developers were working on a proper resolution. In a meantime, the workaround was as follows:

Completely remove the failed Bitdefender installation using the above Uninstall Tool and reboot the PC.
Download an older version of Bitdefender Endpoint Security package. v6.6.16.226 can be downloaded from here.
Place the downloaded epskit_x64.exe file in the same folder with installer.xml that comes with a proper installation package downloaded from your company's GravityZone portal.
Run the installation. This time installation succeeded, but the agent was still showing errors about not being able to communicate with Bitdefender servers. A quick reboot fixed this.
Let the agent update to the latest version. In my case it was v6.6.21.304.

Kudos to Bitdefender support, despite a bit of back and forth at the beginning, at the end the issue was resolved pretty effectively.

How to install Bitdefender Total Security, Internet Security, and Antivirus Plus 2021 offline installer

If you are running any previous Bitdefender version then please uninstall it first. If you have any problem with uninstallation then use this uninstall tool:

After downloading offline installer setup file, You would want to install Bitdefender but when you run the offline setup file you will get an error:

“You must first install Bitdefender Agent to be able to install Bitdefender 2021”

For this problem you will need to download Bitdefender Agent and then follow the process below:

After download open download folder, Right click on the “bitdefender_tsecurity.exe” file and choose option Run as administrator. It will automatically install Bitdefender Agent.
After the installation you will see a download progress screen, then simply close the download progress, Or if your PC doesn’t have an internet connection then you will get an error, so just close it, because you have already downloaded Bitdefender full version offline setup.

Now run your Bitdefender offline installer setup file which you have already downloaded into your system. And you will get UserAccount Control dialog box so simply click on Yes to run the installation.
You will see Bitdefender INSTALLATION screen, click on Install button.

Now Bitdefender will be automatically installed. But registration and activation process need Internet connection and you can’t activate Bitdefender without the Internet. So if your PC doesn’t have internet then you can connect using your Cellphone or your friend’s phone.
